Elementis' Hectorite Clay-Based Rheological Additives

Elementis offers unique hectorite-based rheological additives under their BENTONE and BENAQUA brands. Hectorite clay offers low shear rheology performance in water-based systems. They are highly efficient in the flow control properties of stuccos, plasters, grouts, tile mortars, and other ready / dry mix construction systems. Hectorite rheological additives can be combined with or replace cellulose to improve performance properties. Due to their higher efficiency, they help reduce costs. Compared to other mineral-based and cellulosic rheology additives, BENTONE and BENAQUA hectorite clays offer:

·    Higher efficiency / reduced cost
·    Improved suspension stability
·    Smoother application and outstanding workability
·    Greater thixotropic flow
·    Allows for faster application speed and improved surface quality

The game changing improvement in workability and tooling can mainly be attributed to the unique platelet structure of the hectorite clay, which reduces the friction between sand and cement particles. Elementis owns and operates the only hectorite mine in the world.
