Regulatory Manager - HII
Job Purpose and Vision:
Summary of the Position
The Director of Safety & Compliance is responsible for ensuring the safe operations and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for HI&I operations throughout North America.
• Closely collaborate with our regulatory, commercial, operations, and purchasing teams to comply with OSHA and other safety requirements within the specialty chemicals industry
• Maintain operating regulatory approvals (SQF, HAACP, Kosher, etc.) and ensure regulatory documents are accurate and available
• Develop, prepare, implement, and manage company-wide HSE procedures, manuals, and policies in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Responsible for the identification, assessment, and implementation of controls/programs for chemical and physical hazards
• Provide technical and regulatory support to site operational activities to ensure low incidence rate and full compliance
• Maintain and facilitate communications with regulatory and emergency response agencies
• Proactively ensure our operations are safe and make recommendations for and implement safety related process and system improvements where possible
• Ensure all safety policies and procedures are properly maintained, documented, and made available to all employees
• Ensure employees are properly trained in policies and procedures related to safety and compliance
• Monitor changes and interpretations of all new and existing regulations as well as industry standards in all regions to be able to adopt best practices
• Where appropriate, represent Barentz in chemical industrial committees and associations
• Emergency response and business continuity planning and execution
• Serve as a point of contact for all safety and compliance related topics
• Maintain relationships with 3rd party vendors and partners
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to raise the standards within HSE
• Ensure all regulatory reporting is completed accurately and in a timely manner
• Ensure regulatory and safety electronic databases are properly maintained
• Ensure our quality assurance programs are maintained and properly documented and enforced
• Other duties as requested
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
• At least five (5) years proven experience in the Regulatory and/or Safety field(s), with at least four (4) years of leading a function or team
• Experience in dealing with FIFRA requirements, as well as complying with Federal, State, and Local regulations
• Certified Safety Professional a plus
• Strong continuous process improvement skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• The ability to work in a team environment, prioritize work assignments and manage multiple priorities concurrently
• Experience in interactions with regulatory agencies to support permitting and compliance inspections
• Comfortable balancing attention to detail with turnaround time
• Developing and overseeing safety metrics, regulatory reporting, processes and documentation
• Self-motivated, high energy, and engaging level of enthusiasm and positive outlook
• Experience using regulatory technology (i.e.: Datacor/ChemPax), Microsoft products including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and SharePoint
• Act legally and ethically in all professional relationships in adherence with Barentz’ values and fundamentals
Work Environment
Work is performed in a typical office environment. Travel (10-20%).
Physical requirements
The position is moderately sedentary. Use of a computer and phone are required on a regular basis for verbal and written communications. Work will be performed in warehousing and production environments where PPE may be required.
