Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether - DEGBE

112-34-5

This glycol ether solvent possesses a high boiling point and low odor, making it an ideal solvent for paints, varnishes, household detergents, brewing chemicals, and various textile processing applications. DEGBE also has numerous uses as a raw material in synthesizing various chemical compounds as well. The primary method of production is accomplished via the reaction of ethylene oxide and n-butanol with an alkalic catalyst. DEGBE is often used in pesticide products as an inert deactivator, allowing the insecticide to dissipate before a crop emerges. It is also a key chemical intermediate in the synthesis of various other glycol ethers and piperonyl acetate, and is also used as a solvent in high temperature baked enamel finishes. Further uses of DGBE include a diluent for hydraulic brake fluid, a dispersant for vinyl chloride in organosols, and as a solvent for oil, soap, and water in various household cleaners. Additionally, DGBE is also used as a solvent for oils, dyes, gums, soaps, and polymers.
