AGC Chemicals | Lumiflon fluoropolymer

LUMIFLON fluoropolymer resins were developed by Asahi Glass in 1982. These thermoset, solvent-soluble products are made from alternating fluoroethylene and alkyl vinyl ether segments. The fluorinated segments provide outstanding UV stability, weather resistance, and chemical resistance, while the vinyl ether segments offer solvent and pigment compatibility and sites for crosslinking. LUMIFLON resins can be used to provide highly durable coatings for a variety of substrates, including steel, iron, and aluminum, as well as plastics such as polyester, polyurethane, PET, TPOs, and polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, while offering excellent physical properties, suffers from the drawbacks of poor scratch resistance and poor weathering resistance. Coatings made with LUMIFLON resins can be applied to polycarbonate to remedy these problems. Given below is a sample formulation for a fluorourethane based on LUMIFLON LF-200F, a flake product.
