MINEX Functional Fillers and Extenders - specialty grades
Covia
MINEX functional fillers and extenders are proven performance enhancers in a broad range of paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and inks. Excellent brightness, tint retention, and weatherability can be achieved in exterior paints. Improved color, sheen uniformity, chemical and stain resistance, and durability result when MINEX is used in interior paint formulations. MINEX is easily dispersed in all conventional vehicle systems, and low oil absorption permits high loadings in adhesives, sealants, and aqueous and alkyd based paints. MINEX specialty grades use proprietary processing technologies to produce engineered mineral filler products. Ultrafine MINEX 10 and 12 are especially useful for higher gloss coatings and are the preferred choice for clear systems. Due to its unique light transmission properties, MINEX 12 is particularly well suited for clears, UV and powder coating systems requiring higher gloss and optimum clarity. MINEX EP grades have a controlled particle size distribution specifically developed to enhance the flatting of clear and opaque powder and liquid coatings with excellent dispersion characteristics. The controlled top-size lowers process wear while optimizing transparency in clears. Reduced fines content facilitates high solids/low VOC formulating. MINEX fillers are produced from nepheline syenite; a naturally occurring, silica deficient, sodium-potassium alumina silicate. Automated scanning electron microscopy confirms that MINEX contains less than one-tenth of one percent crystalline silica. No free crystalline silica is detectable in the mineral complex. All MINEX grades are processed and sized with rigid adherence to Covia’s QIPSM quality assurance programs. Consistently uniform chemistries and sizing controls ensure improved structural and chemical performance with minimal resin demand.
