Sustainability for Lubricants Markets
Sustainability is a hot topic around the world these days across all aspects of manufacturing and it doesn’t look like it’s going to cool down any time soon. Key market players in the lubricants manufacturing space are all beginning their transitions to more eco-conscious processes, including the use of biobased additives, recycled/re-refined oils, more efficient machinery, and improved manufacturing practices. You can feel confident that Barentz can support your transition, whatever that looks like.
BIOBASED ADDITIVES
Lubricants manufacturers are increasingly incorporating natural additives to their formulations to decrease negative environmental impacts and reduce their carbon footprint. Incorporation of natural substances into metalworking fluids, industrial lubricants, and hydraulic fluids can help formulators comply with current and future regulations and improve performance in certain properties. Biobased additives have been shown to enhance viscosity, stability, and resistance to wear. However, there are still challenges in consistency of performance and in some cases, scalability issues.
Recycled/Re-Refined Oils
The process of recycling and re-refining lubricating oils is a newer sustainability initiative that seems to be increasingly popular. The use of re-refining oil has many benefits, including a reduction in greenhouses gas and heavy metal emissions, performance consistency, and cost benefits. These recycled oils can be used in internal combustion engines, hydraulic fluids, and gear oils. We will be publishing a newsletter later this year on the circular economy and how lubricants manufacturers can benefit.
